Today I want to share with you a few simple ways to style your fireplace mantel for fall. I also put together a mood board if you want to start fresh and need some quick links.
There’s still time to enjoy fall before we go into Christmas ‘mode’ and I’m decided not to rush things. So if you are like me, and you still want to keep your fall decorations until Thanksgiving, this ideas might inspire you to put the finishing touches on your fall mantel decorations.
1. use a mirror in your fall styling
This dark moody space is one of my favorite living rooms out there and inspired us to build the fireplace last winter. I hope we can finalize that project this fall and I’ll share with you the reveal.
But back to the fall decorations, I love the simplicity of this fall mantel and the use of items that are not specific to any season.
A beautiful mirror is the best centerpiece for a fireplace mantel. It appropiate for any season and if you use a gold frame it adds the warmth that we are looking for in a fall mantel. Just add some brass candleholders, a piece of vintage pottery and some wood beads for a layered look. The final touch could be a pumpkin painting like the one in this image. Adding seasonal decorations in a subtle way is my favorite way of decorating for holiday.
2. style the mantel with muted colored greenery
The image bellow is another simple way to decorate a fireplace mantel for fall. Again, you need a mirror or a large piece of art to be the focus of the wall. Also add some greenery in muted green colors with a touch of brown textured plants. Finally a few small pumpkins and amber colored candleholders and you have a perfectly styled fall mantel.
3. style the mantel with real fall branches
A simple and affordable way to decorate a mantel for fall is by using maple branches or any other branches from your backyard. It might be a little bit messier then using faux ones, but they bring a real natural feel to the indoor space.
Don’t worry if they look a bit reorganized. By adding some dried roses, the arrangement will look much more elegant and intentional.
Don’t forget the brass candleholders and a few white pumpkins.
4. Style the mantel with magnolia leaves
The simplicity and richness of this magnolia garland is breathtaking. The secret is in the large quantity of leaves this time. The rust color on the back of the leaves makes it perfect for fall decor, but I’ve seen people using it for Christmas decoration as well.
You can create a garland with both real or faux magnolia leaves. The asymmetrical placement on the corner of the mantel gives it a more interesting look. Also by adding finishing touches like pine cones and ribbon you can take a magnolia garland to luxury level.
5. use vintage art to style your mantel for fall
In this image, the star is the frame TV which you can personalize with the art exhibit option. If you own one, upload a fall landscape to create a fall feel. If you don’t, print a free landscape image in a large format. You can find free original art downloads here.
Use a few pumpkins and a vintage pot with greenery from the black yard to finish the look.
I love how these vintage prints and pots pair so nicely with the modern neutral living room. Don’t be afraid to mix old and new decorations. The mix is what makes a space feel collected and original.
6. Fall vibe without the fall pumpkins
This might be my favorite fall mantel styling right now. I love the simplicity of it and the fall feel but without the traditional pumpkins we see everywhere. Let’s see what makes it spacial!
First, the black framed mirror pops against he white background and it pairs well with the chandelier and the collection of candleholders.
The secret of a good styling is playing with different heights. This blogger did an amazing job at this. The tall candleholders and frame use up well the height of the fireplace, creating a balanced proportions. The print and amber vase add a touch of fall, but this styling could be used after the holidays as well.
7. Style the mantel with dried florals and stems
The beauty of these dried flowers and stems is pretty much impossible to beat! I love how the vibrant colors from summer change into these muted tones.
Nature is the ultimate stylist (aka God) I am always amazed how wonderfully everything goes together in nature. So, the only thing we need to do is to bring some of it from the outside in.
This might be something we need to plan ahead and take the time to dry hydrangeas, baby-breath, lavender, grasses, globe thistle, straw-flower, Queen Ann’s Lace, etc.
Use neutral ceramic vases and let the dried plants be the focus. Also, the same like with other styling objects, make sure you have multiple heights and textures to make an eclectic mix.
