Hi friends! In today’s blog post I want to share 7 easy ways you can use to make your kitchens feel cozy and inviting this fall.
Kitchens should be places we love dwelling in, right? Places that bring comfort and joy. And fall is when I think we look more for these feelings, so it’s the perfect time to add some cozy touches to our kitchen.
I hope you’ll be inspired by the few tips below and find a way to add more warmth and comfort to your kitchen.
7 easy ways TO MAKE YOUR KITCHEN feel MORE cozy
Kitchens are usually spaces with a lot of hard and cold surfaces. Clearly tile and stone are easy to clean and water resistant. Nevertheless these materials also make the space feel harsh and cold. Add to that stainless steel appliances and the space is not going to feel cozy unless we are intentional about it.
So here are 7 easy ways we can make our kitchens feel cozy without any renovations involved:
1. LIGHTING IS THE SECRET TO COZINESS
Lighting has the power to enhance everything in the kitchen. Having multiple sources of light in your kitchen and using warm (3000 to 4000 Kelvin) light bulbs will make your space feel cozier.
The overhead light should not be your only option. Having designated light sources for specific areas in your kitchen is going to make tasks easier. Also multiple light sources create a more intimate and cozy ambiance.
Adding a sconce over the sink area, under cabinets dimmable lights or even using the range hood light can make the kitchen feel cozier.
If installing new wired light fixtures is not an option, you can always use plug-in options instead. Even a table lamp on the kitchen counter can add interest and a nice cozy feeling after diner.
2. ADD A SITTING AREA
Why would you need to sit down in your kitchen? Well… maybe you are the cook and you don’t really have time for that. But think about your spouse or kids who want to spend time with you, or a friend you have great chat with while you are preparing dinner. It is so much more comfortable sitting when you have a conversation then standing, right? Besides, the fabric on a bench or pillow offers texture and warmth to your space.
Add a stool, a chair with a cushion and pillow or even a cozy bench if the space allows. Of course, if you have a kitchen island that perfect… but for some of us that’s not possible, so we have to make the best of what we have, right?
Some of my favorite memories with my mom in our childhood kitchen are all around an “L” shape banquette we used as dining area. I used to lean one side, put my legs up and talk for hours with my mom while she was cooking or washing dishes.
I would love my kids to have memories like that with me. That is why providing the right space for this kind of memories is important to me.
3. ADD A cozy RUG

Use a soft runner in the sink area and stay barefoot while cooking. It is so relaxing and softens the harshness of the floors. Besides rugs help with noise control. This beautiful kitchen is a barn conversion by Jenna Wright.
If you worry about spills or stains, use one that is washable. There are plenty of options out there like on ruggable.com.
My rug is from Loloi rugs and I love it. Although care instructions recommend professional cleaning, I washed it several times in the washing machine with cold water and still looks great.
4. ADD COZINESS WITH PLANTS
Plants are such an amazing element to add to any space. Besides all the health benefits that you can read about here, I think seeing them bloom or grow can make us enjoy the space more.
Here are some ideas to place your plants if your countertop is not an option:
- place the ones that like light on your window sill
- add hanging planters from the ceiling
- on your fridge
- on the top of your upper cabinets
- wall mount planters
5. Mix metals for a cozy look
For a designer look make sure you use at least 2 different metals in the kitchen. Like in the kitchen below, you can use some warm tone metals like brass, or copper, mixed with cool tons like chrome or nickel. Also use black metals for a neutral accent in light fixtures.
For a cozy feel, make sure you use at least one warm tone metal like brass, gold or copper. If you are interested in more tips on how to mix metals, leave a comment below and I’ll make sure to write a blog about it in the near future.
6. USE wood ELEMENTS TO ADD WARMTH
Display wood cutting boards, utensils, shelves or other wood elements. Group them together for an uncluttered and cozy look. Besides adding warmth to the space, it its also really practical to have them on hand when needed.
7. Add curtains in the kitchen for a cozy look
Curtains and shades are huge in creating a cozy feel in any space. Certainly in the kitchen we have less opportunities to use fabrics. Therefore the use of cafè curtains or fabric shades is a huge step in adding warmth and a smooth and cozy feel to the kitchen.
I hope these ideas helped you view your kitchen with a fresh eye and inspired you to make it the coziest place in your home.
