I don’t know about you, but every time fall rolls in, I’m suddenly attracted by a rich, moody color and quickly becomes my favorite! This year my favorite is eggplant color also known as aubergine, fig, wine or dark mauve.
It feels like every season calls for different colors and I realize this happens with every change of temperature and landscape around me. As much as I love light and neutral spaces, I’m equally in love with moody rich colors. I’m in a constant back and forth in my mind when deciding which route should I take when it comes to our home design. I like almost every style and color scheme and there’s just too many ideas to fit into one home. Right?
Ana (my daughter) often asks me which is my favorite color and I always say green, because it is. But, when she recently asked me, I felt like I didn’t want to say green anymore…it was like betraying my favorite one… for this season at least.

This rich plum color stopped me in my tracks! I love the imperfect square tiles, the onions color and how the gold accents enhance this rich beautiful color.
fall inspiration
Marynn did an amazing job with this powder room using the color Brinjal by Farrow and Ball. It feels so luxurious with the floating marble vanity and brass accents!
Here’s another great example of using this color in a bathroom. This one is designed by Jenny Yolo. The way she balanced Brinjal by Farrow & Ball with white is amazing and proves that using a dark color in a windowless small bathroom is a good idea.

And while inspiration is great, I want to give you some practical ideas and sources to use in case you become or already are in love with this color as I am. I hope to have the opportunity to use this color in some way in future projects. Mix it with marble, brass accents, maybe even other dark colors like navy blue and you have the recipe for a successful design.
