It’s not a secret that I love shopping at Ikea. Any time I go there I get lots of inspiration and find affordable items that I need around the house and have a lot of fun in the process. So today I want to share what are, in my opinion, the best items to buy at IKEA for a timeless modern cottage look.
These items bring that cozy comfortable and casual feeling that I love in a home. They also look high end and timeless so you can enjoy them for years without having made a huge investment.
So here we go!
1. THE FÄRLÖV SOFA
This one is by far my favorite and is currently on my shopping list! It has a high end look and even though it’s white, there’s nothing to worry about because the cover is washable.
It also comes in darker colors if you prefer it, like dark olive-green and dark drey.
2. THE ULRIKSBERG ARMCHAIR
I love the more modern line of this armchair combined with the natural rattan. Looks so good with a cozy pillow and a throw blanket! The perfect spot for reading a good book or sipping a cup of coffee.
3. The DYTÅG linen curtains
This pair of crushed linen curtains are the perfect layer of casual fabric that any room needs. Linen is timeless and simple, and adds that natural touch that a cottage should be filled with.
If you want to use them in a bedroom I would pair them with a natural fiber shade to have the privacy needed but still let the light through during the day.
4. THE KOLDBY COWHIDE RUG
Wait, wait! I know having a cowhide in your living room, dining or bedroom seems very rustic or farmhouse style, but it can be a perfect fit for almost any style. The colors and organic shape soften any space, even the modern ones. They are also very durable and easy to clean. I use one under the dining table and it’s nice to the touch and easy to wipe of any spills.
The Koldby cowhide rug is an affordable option to achieve this look. You can even find the Lohals flat woven rug at IKEA if you want the high end layered look.
5. The FEJKA artificial potted WEEPING FIG
This one is a great find! I think every room needs a plant and if you don’t want to take on the responsibility of keeping a real plant alive, this artificial one is a great way to add some life to your space. The price is amazing compared with any other you can find out there and looks pretty realistic too. Use a wicker basket to hide the plastic pot and take it to the next level.
6. The VARDAGEN goblet glass
Things like drinking water in a pretty glass is a small detail that adds some charm to life. These are the glasses I have in my house and use daily for family and friends. Even though are simple, the foot and stem make them feel a little fancy on a small budget.
7. The AGARALG pendant light
This pendant light is perfect for a modern cottage home on a budget. It could go over the sink, over a dining table or a group of two or three over the kitchen island. I love the gold details and the mouth-blown glass lampshade.
8. The SILVERHÖJDEN gold frame
I love this cute gold frame with the white mat. It comes in three different sizes and can be used with or without the mat. It’s perfect for an affordable gallery wall with family pictures or some cute printable art. This might be my next project!
9. The NÖJAKTIG decorative rattan dish
This is a very cute rattan dish to have on top of the coffee table or on a console. It could also be part of a rattan bowls wall gallery!
10. The FALLENHET ceramic vase
This white ceramic vase is a timeless piece to use with some flowers or branches on a console or dining table , or even as a utensils holder in the kitchen. It is pretty even empty but grouped together with other ceramic vases from your collection.
Here are my ten best items to buy eat Ikea for a timeless but still modern cottage look. I could definitely add much more, but I’ll keep it short this time.
