Today I was inspired to share my thoughts on how to create a conversation area in your living room that invites people to conversations and quality time together.
Furniture might not be what you expect when it comes to creating more quality time with friends and family. But I assure you, the way we layout the furniture can help set the mood for conversations, playing games, etc.
We all want islands in the our kitchens because they allow us to spend more time together and entertain (click here for the blog post about creating a cozy kitchen). In the same way, how we arrange the furniture in our living room can shift our focus to different things. For example we tend to look outside more if the couch is facing the window or watching TV if the seating is facing the TV.
My favorite layout is in a circle , where everyone can see and talk to others seating around.
If you are blessed with having a living room and a separate family room, then it’s a great scenario because there is enough space for multiple activities. But even if you have only one space to work with I suggest you to take some time and think about how to make your space work better for your purposes.
Today I want to focus on how to create a conversation area in the living room or family room.
Inspiration
While reading Lauren Liess’s last book ‘Feels like home” her “four-chair room” inspired me so much to create a conversation area in our living room. These cool one and a half seat chairs look so comfy and casual, the kind that invite you to put your feet up! They create the perfect space for connecting with our loved ones while being relaxing at the same time. The four mini couches are perfect for parents, kids and pets cuddling or reading time.
After seeing Lauren’s four-chair room in her book, images with similar layout grabbed my attention on Pinterest. Like when you start looking for a specific car you like, and suddenly you see that car everywhere… now I’m hunted by the four-chair room look!
MORE INSPIRATION
Before putting together a mood board and a shopping list to get the four-chair room look, lets get some more inspiration photos!

The best way to design a room is starting with a mood board. This way we can see if the items work together in the space before committing to buying them.
